John Thomas is a long-time Research and Development Staff Member at ORNL. His most recent efforts involve a range of diesel exhaust emissions aftertreatment technologies, including soot filters, NOx adsorber catalysts, hydrocarbon SCR, and urea SCR. He also has recent experience in the areas of alternative engine fuels, lightweight diesel generators, and auxiliary power units. John has a broad background in fossil energy technology, fuels, combustion, energy conversion and power generation systems. His early career focus pertained to coal combustion, gasification and liquefaction technologies.
- ORNL Staff member since 1978.
- Member and Technical Reviewer for Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), and American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). SAE session organizer and chairperson
- Over fifty published reports, numerous internal and letter reports.
