Brian West is a Senior Research and Development Engineer, and has been conducting fuels, engines, and emissions research at ORNL since 1988. Research topics have included alternative fuels, advanced materials, and advanced aftertreatment systems, including Lean NOx Traps (LNT), HC lean-NOx catalysis, urea SCR, and diesel particle filters.
- Co-chair for APBF-DEC NOx adsorber tech team.
- Led project for Federal Highway Administration to develop data-based modal vehicle fuel consumption and emissions tables for use in traffic models.
- Led special projects under auspices of The Federal Methanol Fleet project.
- Member of Society of Automotive Engineers. Active as author, organizer, and session chair for technical meetings.
- Two-time recipient of “Excellence In Oral Presentation” award from SAE.
- Registered Professional Engineer, Tennessee.
- One patent, two provisional patents
