Derek joined the research and development staff of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 2014, following a post-doctoral fellowship through ORAU.

Derek’s areas of expertise: Internal combustion Engine fundamentals, fuel injection, emissions, low-temperature combustion, engine efficiency, abnormal combustion, engine diagnostics.

Areas of current research: Fuel and lubricant composition effects on spark ignited combustion, dilute spark ignited combustion, abnormal spark ignited combustion, low temperature combustion, fuel injection dynamics.
